The Perfect Fit

The perfect fit. Being someone that appreciates clothes and shoes, when I hear the phrase “the perfect fit”, I think of jeans, or shoes, or tops, etc. Don't you just love when you find that pair of shoes that fit perfectly; just the right size, like they are made to fit your feet? Or that favorite pair of jeans that fit impeccably, go with everything, make you feel like a million bucks and are so comfortable you would sleep in them if you could? The perfect fit. We all want it, and know it once we find it.

Well did you know that the Lord has the perfect fit for you and for your life? I love that He has destined each one of us with a distinct calling and a unique purpose in this life. If there is a theme that the Lord has ministered over and over to me the past 10 years of my life, it would be this theme. The one that proclaims that we all have our own lane and our own path to take. The one that confirms that someone else’s path is not our own, and that we have to follow the Lord for ourselves, and cannot be distracted by what others may be doing. We have our own job to do, and our own race to run. So often, if I don’t catch myself, I will begin the downward spiral of comparing myself and my life to others that seem to be further along than I am, and I begin to devalue my own unique calling. This is not a healthy place to be in, I assure you, so when you catch yourself on that slippery slope, hop off quickly, and begin to thank the Lord for the path He has for you and the divine destiny to which He has called you.

I remember one day grumbling to the Lord about some things I was believing for in my life that hadn’t yet panned out, and essentially feeling sorry for myself. (side note - did you know that feeling sorry for yourself is actually a dangerous position to be in? But that’s another blog for another time!) I kept asking Him, “Lord, when are these things going to come to fruition? What am I supposed to do here?” “Where do you want me?” And I heard Him so clearly say, “Do not worry, I have the perfect fit for you.” And I knew at that moment, that what he was preparing for me, was indeed going to be the perfect fit. I knew that everything from my job, to my daughter Abby, to where I live, ministry opportunities, He had the perfect fit for me. I just needed to trust Him.

If you’ve followed my blog for any amount of time, you know that I’m a dictionary buff and very much enjoy looking up the meaning of words, because it brings me deeper into the context of the word. So I looked up the word “perfect” and found this definition: “having all the required or desirable elements, qualities, or characteristics; as good as it is possible to be.” So the Lord has everything taken care of for us - everything we desire, the qualities, or characteristics, as good as it is possible to be! Think of the things in your life right now, or things you may be believing for! Spouse, family, job, where to live, church, relationships, ministry, children, financial provision. All of it! He has the perfect fit for you and for me! I love the scripture in James 1:17 that says, “Every gift God freely gives us is good and perfect, streaming down from the Father of lights, who shines from the heavens with no hidden shadow or darkness and is never subject to change.” (TPT)

Now, am I saying this life will be perfect? Certainly not, and I’m sure you can testify to that as well! The Bible doesn’t promise us a perfect life. But I believe wholeheartedly that God has the perfect fit for us when it comes to all of the things that concern us. According to Psalm 138:8, He is perfecting that which concerns us.

So maybe you're saying, “that all sounds great, Sharon, and yes, I believe God has the perfect fit for me and is perfecting that which concerns me. But I surely don’t see any of it right now! Nothing feels like a perfect fit at all! In fact, things feel so ill-fitted right now that I am uncomfortable in every area!” And hey - I completely get that, believe me! But I’d like to share something with you the Lord showed me one day that really changed my perspective. Because honestly, sometimes when I’m in the season of waiting, I’ll go down the list of things that I could or should be doing better. Or try to figure out where I missed it, because I must’ve missed it, or I’d already be in my perfect fit! You know, sometimes our season of waiting is just simply that, waiting. It doesn’t mean we’ve missed it, or need to be doing more or better. The Lord showed me that sometimes He is working, preparing things, and until those things are set, we have to continue waiting. I don't know about you, but I want the Lord’s timing and I’m happy to wait while He prepares my next season for me. His timing is perfect.

Friends, I truly believe He has the perfect fit for us in every area of our lives. And it’s so much more than we could ask or think. Trust Him today. No matter what you see on the surface, always know that God is working behind the scenes perfecting things for you. His ways are perfect and He never fails.

Mediate on this scripture today - Psalm 18:30 (TPT) “What a God you are! Your path for me has been perfect! All your promises have proven true. What a secure shelter for all those who turn to hide themselves in you! You are the wrap-around God giving grace to me.”
